ESL (English as a Second Language)
The ESL Program at Lester Prairie Schools is designed to support students in their acquisition of basic, intermediate, and academic English. Lessons are based on current ESL theory and emphasis is placed on usage. Small class sizes ensure each student is seen and heard. Mistakes, imperfections, creativity, and guesses are welcomed as natural parts of learning and to encourage students to speak, write, and develop their individual voices.
Students are recognized for their strengths in having a fully formed first language system or as dual language learners (pre-K through second grade). Students are encourage to develop their home language, transfer knowledge and make comparisons of their home language to English.
Ms. Magistad is the district's EL coordinator and EL teacher.
