Starting kindergarten is a real celebration! For the children it means new experiences, routines, friends, and a new sense of independence. These children also depend on and need the support of caring families, teachers and community members as well. In the kindergarten classrooms at Lester Prairie the children are adjusting to their schedules which include math, reading, science, social studies, center time, writer’s workshop, morning meeting, calendar time, and much more. While involved in these activities the focus is on the cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and creative development of each child.
The kindergarten sessions follow a full day schedule and include many exciting activities in addition to those in the classroom. Each day the boys and girls go to Mr. Rue’s room for music and they have physical education in the gym or outdoors with Mr. Weber. They also have lunch in the cafeteria and play on the playground with their classmates in the middle of the day. Mrs. Klobe, the art teacher, visits the classroom for lessons on the elements of art.
Each day is very busy and kindergarten children are eager to learn!
