Grade 1: Jen Brandel

Lester Prairie First Grade

The school year has quickly come to an end with lots of smiling faces anticipating the joys of summer, but also some sad faces realizing that routines are about to change and our 173 days of learning together are over. We had a wonderful year and the children grew in so many ways!
Research shows that the newly acquired skills that first graders learn can be forgotten over the summer without reinforcement.  It is my hope that you encourage your child to read, write, and math a little each day–have fun with it! And remember, it’s just as important for your little one to get outside every day as well!
Thank you for letting me share this special year in the life of your child!  They will always hold a special place in my heart.

A Little About Me

My name is Jen Brandel and I began my career teaching first grade in Lester Prairie, and aside from one year teaching second grade, that’s where I have stayed!  I earned my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin- River Falls and later got my Master’s Degree and Reading Specialist licensure from Concordia University- St. Paul.  I love that our school feels like family, and I am grateful to work with amazing colleagues, students, and parents!

I live in Cokato, and my family enjoys attending (and playing in) many sporting events, going camping, spending time at our family cabin up North, taking summer road trips, and cheering for the Twins, Timberwolves, Johnnies, and of course, the Bulldogs!  I love to read, go for walks, travel, take photos, and spend time with friends and family.

Great communication is so important for your child’s success! Please don’t hesitate to contact me at:

eLearning (Snow Day) Choice Board Instructions

In the event that you have been notified that our school is having an eLearning Day (like a snow day), your child needs to follow the directions on the RED Choice Board packet in their Finish and Return folder. Please initial and date each activity completed, and put it back in their folder so that I can take attendance the following day.

Note that one of the math choices is to use IXL. Please use the Elementary K-6 tab on the website and drop down to “IXL Elementary”. Then enter the login information located on the RED cover sheet of the packet.

On eLearning Days, I am available via email from 8:30-12:00 and 12:30-2:00. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Here is a copy of the Choice Board packet if you have misplaced your original copy:
